I (Heart) Irony

Seen in two separate posts on various and sundry message boards today:

"Your an idiot"

and

"There morons!"

The latter of which was NOT supposed to be "There! Morons!" followed by a pointing motion. It was short for "they are morons".

Ahhh...irony...sly friend of intellectuals, covert enemy of dum dums everywhere.

Amazing isn't it? You wonder where the copyeditor was in that sign shop.

I passed a sign on the side of an interstate recently advertising a large amount of land for sale. You've all seen them...

"100+ Acers For Sale".

They wonder why they haven't been able to sell all those aces?

There are far too many of these for me to ignore. I'm definitely keeping my eye out for more and will be posting them as I find them. God help me if I ever make a really awful typo in my blog though...people will come after me with hatchets.

And what's scary, is some of these folks are picking you up when you call 911, if you happen to be unlucky, or worse yet, in med school.

Oh, wow...I'm right there with ya on this one, Dim. It's probably my biggest pet peeve in the world - the your/you're and their/there/they're misspellings, and just slightly worse, the pathetic misuse of apostrophe's, as illustrated in my spelling of that particular word. I HATE seeing these glaring mistakes! And you know, some of them are on actual lettered signs, made at a sign company...such as "Venders Wanted" at a market or the neon sign across from our local ice cream shop at the car dealer "Auto's for Sale". I always think to myself - you know, someone made that neon sign by hand, his/her superior approved it, the person who ordered it picked it up (and that original person had it spelled wrong, of course!) and it was mounted on the window by some unsuspecting dimwit who thought it was correct. The chain of idiocy extends far beyond just a bad sign. *sigh* You got me on a rant. :)
